Privacy Policy
How this publication handles personal information, in accordance with Australian privacy law.
Who we are
The Whisky Chronicle (Australia Edition) is an independent editorial publication operating in Australia. For the purposes of this policy, The Whisky Chronicle is the entity responsible for personal information collected through this website. Enquiries may be sent through our contact page.
What personal information we collect
We collect only what is necessary to operate an editorial website:
- Contact form submissions — your name, email address, selected subject and the content of your message.
- Cookies and analytics data — where you have consented, anonymised information about pages viewed, approximate region and device type.
- Technical logs — standard server records such as IP address and browser type, retained briefly for security and reliability.
We do not collect sensitive information, we do not operate user accounts, and we do not request date of birth or identity documents.
Why we collect it
Contact information is used solely to respond to your message and to record corrections to published articles. Analytics information is used to understand which articles are read so that editorial effort can be directed usefully. We do not use personal information for marketing, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
How information is held and protected
Information is held on secured infrastructure with access restricted to the editorial team. Transmission to and from this website is encrypted. While no online service can guarantee absolute security, we take reasonable steps to protect information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
Third-party processors
Where analytics cookies are accepted, aggregated usage data may be processed by Google Analytics, which may involve transfer of data outside Australia. Website hosting and delivery are provided by our hosting provider. We do not use advertising networks, remarketing tools or social media tracking pixels.
Retention
Contact form correspondence is retained for up to 24 months and then deleted, unless it forms part of a published correction record. Analytics data is retained in aggregated form for up to 26 months. Technical logs are retained for up to 90 days.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles you may request access to the personal information we hold about you, request correction of information that is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete, request deletion where we have no ongoing need to retain it, and withdraw your consent to analytics cookies at any time.
Requests can be made through our contact page and are actioned within 30 days. Reference in this policy to the Australian Privacy Act 2020 framework should be read as reference to the privacy legislation in force in Australia and the Australian Privacy Principles made under it.
Complaints
If you are not satisfied with our handling of your personal information, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au. We ask that you raise the matter with us first so that we have an opportunity to resolve it.
