Our mission
The Whisky Chronicle documents the history, production traditions and cultural heritage of whisky distilling. We publish long-form editorial writing intended to inform readers about how a centuries-old craft developed, who developed it and why it took the forms it did.
We are an educational publication. We do not sell anything, we do not accept advertising from alcohol producers, and we do not publish sponsored content, affiliate links or purchase recommendations of any kind.
We write about whisky as a subject of history and craft — never as a product to be promoted.
Our editorial team
Articles are researched and written by The Whisky Chronicle Editorial Team, a small group of writers and researchers with backgrounds in history, industrial heritage and technical writing. Content is drawn from published histories, excise and parliamentary records, distillery archives, industrial surveys such as Alfred Barnard's 1887 work, and contemporary technical literature on distillation and maturation.
Articles are published under a collective byline because they are the product of shared research and internal review rather than individual authorship.
Independence
The Whisky Chronicle is not affiliated with, owned by, sponsored by or endorsed by any distillery, brand owner, importer, retailer or industry body. Distilleries and expressions discussed on this website are selected on the basis of historical significance and the availability of documentary sources, never on the basis of any commercial relationship.
Where a distillery is named, it is named as the subject of historical study. Nothing published here should be read as a recommendation to purchase or consume any product.
Our Australian readership
This publication is written for readers in Australia who are aged 18 years or over.
